Be Merciful

Luke 6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

God is merciful. It was His love and mercy that allowed the Father to send the Son, Jesus to this earth and suffer to take the penalty for our sins. It is His mercy that allows His Holly Spirit to dwell in each and every believer/follower. It is His mercy that not only forgives our sins but never brings a forgiven sin back to His mind. Our question is how are we doing in our mercy to others? Are we quick to anger? Do we hold a grudge? Do we keep accounts of what we consider to be wrongs against us? God tells us to be merciful in the same way He is merciful. Next time we start to criticize or get angry let us pause and remember God’s mercy toward us and do the same for others.

Always Present

Psalms 139:7-12 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

Hear the Psalmist talks about how God is present everywhere. He is fully present in Heaven on His throne. He is also fully present with each and every person who has invited His Son, Jesus, into their lives, hearts and minds. We are never out of the sight or presence of God. When we allow Him, He orders our footsteps. When we walk through the depths Of darkness He is there with us. When we are rejoicing on the mountaintops of life He is there. There is no place or time on this earth when He isn’t with us. When we are not aware of His presence with us it is because we have chosen to try to hide from Him. He is still there Let us choose to learn and practice always being aware of His presence with us and us with Him.

All Knowing

Psalms 139:1-6 You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

These verses talk about how God is all-knowing. There is nothing we can do, say or even think that God doesn’t see, hear and know. We may hide actions, words or thoughts from others or even try to hide them from ourselves but not from God. Yet, in spite of His all-knowing, He loves us. To know ourselves we must know God. Through His Holy Spirit He will reveal our innermost being to us as we are able to see and able to allow Him to re-mold us into His image. Our question is do we really want to know what lies deep within us and deal with it according to His wisdom and mercy?

What Is The Bible

Psalms 119:105. Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.

What is the Bible to you? To some it is a collection of stories. To others a good book of morals of various times and cultures. Some consider it a general guideline for living but insist on choosing what the like and ignoring what they don’t like. Some use it as table decoration for others to see they have one. The Psalmist says the Bible is God’s word–a word to light the way he should walk his life. He didn’t have the advantage of the New Testament with the words and examples of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. How much brighter the light of God’s word, the Holy Bible, shines today. God has given us the gift of His Holy Spirit to understand the meaning and use of His Lamp and to help us make use of His Light for our walk on this earth. Our question is do we take full advantage of Hos gift to us? The clearer the lamp shade the brighter the light. Let’s not shade the lamp with un-confessed sin or stubborn hearts and minds seeking self-indulgence. Let us continually use the Light Gos has for us.

It Was So

Genesis 1:9. God said, ………… It was so.

God speaks and it happens. All creation responds to God’s direction spoken words. That is all except mankind. God gave man a choice. He wants us to respond to His spoken word because of our love for Him. When we choose to respond we receive life for God’s spoken word is life. It is in His spoken word that all life exists. Without His spoken word in us we are as dry grass, easily consumed by the fire of sin and darkness. Our question is will we continually allow His spoken word in us? Remember His word became flesh through Jesus Christ. Jesus said it is only through Him that we can be in the presence of God. Let His Holy Spirit dwell actively in us that the spirit, power and life of God’ Word can grow and flow.

Psalms 105:4 Seek the Lord and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually!

The word “seek” means to search for, to go after or to inquire. In Psalms 119:2 we read, “How blessed are those who observe his rules, and seek him with all their heart,”. Sometimes we fear if we truly seek after, go after and inquire after God with all our heart there would be no room in our lives for anything else. How wrong that is. When we diligently seek to walk consistently with God we have more people and things in our lives that bring an abundance of joy. Joy because we are in the right relationship. God is our train engine. Everything else in our lives are the cars being pulled by the engine. The cars do not choose where to go; they follow the engine. The engine must have fuel or it will stop. Our fuel is prayer and meditation on God’s word which fuels the engine with His Holy Spirit. The engine must be kept clean through confession. Our question is are we properly maintains our engine?

Infectious Enthusiasm

Romans 12:11. Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the Lord.

Enthusiasm is infectious. You can see this at sporting events. A few people start cheering and before long almost all the crowd is cheering together. We must ask yourselves where our zeal is for loving God and for spreading His love to others. Are we being infectious? If we don’t give God’s love to someone else we don’t really have His love. Love is not love if it is not shared. By its very nature it must be passed on. When others see enthusiasm they look to see why. When we are enthusiastic about God, Who He is, what He has done and who we are in Him we get the attention of others. When we are enthusiastic about assembling with other believers in church people will come to see why. Our question is where are we in our enthusiasm? Are we allowing our love for God through His Son, Jesus, to be infectious and spread throughout this world or are we keeping it in isolation?

Holy Spirit Walks

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.”

After Jesus died on the cross, rose from death and ascended to the Father in Heaven God sent His Holy Spirit to walk this earth in and through the believers in Jesus, His Son, His Word. We receive the Holy Spirit in us the moment we invite Jesus into our hearts and minds as our Lord and Savior. It is the Holy Spirit Who gives us the power to walk as Jesus did-in full and continuous fellowship and obedience to God the Father. Our question is do we really want to walk that way? We are so intent on our own comfort and desires that we tend to choose not to hear and obey the gentle nudging of the Holy Spirit within us. How did Jesus do it? He spent hours drawing apart from others to talk things over with the Father. How much time do we spend in conversation with the Father? We are good at telling Him what we want but how about listening to what He wants? We have one mouth and 2 ears. Let us talk half as much as we listen to our God.

Far and Wide

2 Timothy 3:15 and how from infancy you have known the holy writings, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

No one is ever too young (or too old) to have the Word of God, the scriptures contained in the Hole Bible, share with them.  Jochebed, the mother of Moses, had only 3 years to fill him with the holy writings.  Then he was taken to a worldly university to grow in the ways of the Egyptians.  It was the words and wisdom implanted in him his first 3 years that made possible his receptivity to God’s direction to lead the Hebrews from the slavery in Egypt to establish the nation of Israel.  Through this came later great leaders and even the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. We never know how far and wide our words will lead.  Our question is are we learning and sharing the words of knowledge and wisdom found in the Holy Bible?

Dwell in Us

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God.

Let the word of Christ dwell in us. To dwell means to reside or live. First we must know the word of Christ. His word is recorded for us in the Holy Bible. For the word to dwell in us we must read, study meditate and ask the Holy Spirit to show us hoW to apply it to our lives in our time and place. We are not only to do this, we are to share what we learn with others and encourage them with what we have learned. We are also to sing the words as music helps bring the words into our emotions and beings. With all of this comes humility as we grow to understand who we are in comparison to Who Christ is. Our question is will we choose to make the effort to Obey this so we may be rich n Christ Jesus?
