Luke 10:2. He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

The harvest for souls is ripe. God calls us to not only pray for more harvesters to respond but for each of us to do our part in harvesting. People are hungry for God but they don’t know God is what fills them. They need to be shown and told. The question is when is the last time we prayed for someone’s salvation and when is the last time we shared the way to God (Jesus is the way) with someone? Not a day should go by without us praying for the lost, more harvesters and showing someone the way. Let us each do our part. It’s not just up to professional ministers or missionaries. It is up to each and every one of us. (Matthew 28:19) “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,”

The Harvest

2 Samuel 23:11-12. Next in command was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines assembled at Lehi, where there happened to be an area of a field that was full of lentils, the army retreated before the Philistines. But he made a stand in the middle of that area. He defended it and defeated the Philistines; the Lord gave them a great victory.

Our churches are in neighborhoods full of lost souls. Some were in church as children but were taken away by the world. We have just sat in our pews and surrendered to their loss. Our question us will we continue to be like a retreating army or like Shammah who stood and defended the harvest? We need to fight for the lost in our neighborhoods. We start with prayer then we go to them, extend the hand of friendship, offer to bring them with us, encourage them, feed them, do whatever it takes to bring them into the fellowship of God’s family. It takes time and effort on our part. It’s what Jesus told us to do. By going into the world to make disciples it is not enough for us to give money to foreign mission. We must start in our neighborhoods. The harvest is ripe for the picking. Will we bring the harvest in for the glory of God or allow the enemy yo plunder the harvest?

Harvest Workers

Luke 10:1-2 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

As Jesus was walking toward Jerusalem He appointed seventy-two others to go and share His good news. It was time to start harvesting the seeds He planted and the need for workers is great. Jesus has called us to plant more seeds and harvest seeds that others have planted. To do this we must be sharing what God has, is and will do for us and for others. We must be reaching out in the love God gives us and pass it on to others. We cannot do this if we are critical or judgmental. The Holy Spirit will convict and God will judge. We are just to tell and love. Our question is are we taking this seriously? Not a day should pass without our reaching out in God’s love through sharing His plan of salvation, encouraging someone discouraged and helping someone in need. Let us also be sure to pray for more harvesters to spread God’s news and love.
