Acknowledge Him

Matthew 10:32. “Whoever, then, acknowledges me before people, I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven.

Without the acknowledgment from Jesus we will have to stand before God on our own. It is impossible for anyone to deem the self good enough to be in the presence of God. It is only through the shed blood of Jesus and His acknowledgment that God will deem us worthy to be in His presence. Our question is are we acknowledging Jesus before our fellow beings? We can and should acknowledge Him in several different ways. We acknowledge Him with our voice by what we say. We acknowledge Him by allowing the countenance of His Holy Spirit within us to shine through us in our facial expressions. We acknowledge Him through the way we relate with others. We acknowledge Him by our works. We cannot choose to acknowledge Him in just one of these ways and ignore Him in all the other ways. All the ways comprise a unit of truly a acknowledging we are His and He is our Lord and Savior. We can’t choose to acknowledge Him on certain days and not on others. We either are consistently or we are liters. Let us be faithful in our acknowledgment of Jesus.

Who’s First

Genesis 22:2. God a said, “Take your son-your only son, whom you love, Isaac and go to the land of Moriah! Offer him up there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will indicate to you.”

God knew how much Abraham loved his son. God also knew how much Abraham loved Him. God wanted Abraham and Isaac to see their priorities. God wants and deserves to be first in our hearts, minds and lives. Our question is where does God really come in our own heart, mind or life? It’s hard to really be honest with ourselves. We want to say God is first and above all else with us but is that a wish or an actuality? We need to take time often to check our priorities So many distractions slip in and clamor for our devotion. A dangerous pray to our idols is “God, help me put You above all else.” He will. Our life and values will change but we will never regret for we will be full of God through His Holy Spirit.

What Is The Bible

Psalms 119:105. Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.

What is the Bible to you? To some it is a collection of stories. To others a good book of morals of various times and cultures. Some consider it a general guideline for living but insist on choosing what the like and ignoring what they don’t like. Some use it as table decoration for others to see they have one. The Psalmist says the Bible is God’s word–a word to light the way he should walk his life. He didn’t have the advantage of the New Testament with the words and examples of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. How much brighter the light of God’s word, the Holy Bible, shines today. God has given us the gift of His Holy Spirit to understand the meaning and use of His Lamp and to help us make use of His Light for our walk on this earth. Our question is do we take full advantage of Hos gift to us? The clearer the lamp shade the brighter the light. Let’s not shade the lamp with un-confessed sin or stubborn hearts and minds seeking self-indulgence. Let us continually use the Light Gos has for us.

Walking About

Zechariah 10:12. Thus I will strengthen them by my power, and they will walk about in my name,” says the Lord.

We become strengthened through prayer, Bible study and meditation through God’s Holy Spirit. It is not through osmosis but through our commitment to gain and use all God provides for us. As we become strengthened we are to walk about in His name. This means we are to walk where God has us demonstrating and sharing God with those around us. Our question is are we doing this? Have we encouraged anyone’s faith today? Have we brought God’s Word to a starving soul? God is faithful doing His part, let us do our part. Let’s get walking.

Be Ready

1 Peter 3:15. But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.

Always be ready. Be ready to bring Christ to all you meet. How can we always be ready? We must continually confess anything that would separate us from God; any action in-action, thought or word. After each confession we must ask for a refilling of God’s Holy Spirit. We must also know what is written in God’s word, the Holy Bible through study and meditation. Our question is are we willing to be honest with ourselves in confession to God and willing to spend the time learning His instructions for living? If our living doesn’t show the reflection of Christ Jesus we won’t be asked. Let us be sure to be ready to encourage a struggling believer or help someone into God’s family.

Giving Honor

John 15:8. My Father is honored by this, that you bear much fruit and show that you are my disciples.

Sometimes we’re not sure how to give honor to God. It is much more than using His name in an honorable way. Jesus said we honor God when we bear much fruit and through that demonstrate what it is to be His disciple. What fruit are we to bear? In Galatians 5:22-23 we read “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control. Against such things there is no law.” As these fruits grow in us we are to learn to share them with others, encouraging other believers and bringing in new believers. Our questions are how are our fruits growing and how are we using them?

Exodus 3:14. God said to Moses, “ I am that I am.”

Hebrews 13:8. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever!

Change is something we know well. We change our behavior to fit the occasion. We expect others to do the same. We even expect God to change according to our own self-interest desires. We want God to conform to our perceived needs and wants. The idea of us changing to His image makes us whimper and groan, “It’s too hard. It’s impossible.” We think it takes our power and ability to adjust ourselves to God. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to adjust our hearts and mind to God and His ways. Our only job is a willingness to allow Him to do so. We are to look to Him and obey Him through all circumstances. We are to trust His workings in and through us. Without acknowledging Jesus Christ as our Lord and Redeemer this trust is impossible. Without Him we remain rigid and un-moldable. Our question is will we allow ourselves to become pliable to God’s molding of us and stop trying to mold God to our own concepts of Him? He is so much more than our finite minds can ever contain. He wants to re-mold us into His Image, an image beyond our finite understanding. Let us say and mean the words in the old hymn, “Have Thine own way Lord….mold me and shape me after The will.”

Prepare for Worship

Psalms 29:2. Acknowledge the majesty of the Lord s reputation! Worship the Lord in holy attire!

Many interpret this verse to mean dress up in special clothes. It is not our clothes that fit us for worship. It is our spiritual attire. If there is un-confessed sin, resentment or bitterness in our hearts we are not attired to worship. We cannot worship God with sin in our heart. We must allow His Holy Spirit to cleanse us and refill us, renewing us in His love and worshiping God in humble thankfulness putting on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. It is God’s grace and the love and righteousness of His Son that gives us the privilege of worshiping Him. Our question is how often do we prepare and avail ourselves to worship God in Spirit and truth?

Jesus in Us

Ephesians 3:17. that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, so that, because you have been rooted and grounded in love,

I’ve been putting off writing this because God is at work in me about this in a mighty way. The other day I had several children, all siblings, with me. They were fighting and being unkind to each other. God reminded me about what He’s been trying to get into me. I asked the children where Jesus is. They pointed to their hearts and said He’s in their heart. I said since Jesus is in us that means the way we treat each other is the way we are treating Jesus. I don’t know about you but I have to say, “ouch.” It’s not so hard to treat strangers nicely but it seems the closer the relationship the more relaxed we are to the point of hurting, arguing and being thoughtless to one another. I find myself asking forgiveness over and over. The good news is I realize what I’m doing or saying faster and almost immediately tell my Lord I’m sorry. With the help of His Holy Spirit I hope to need fewer apologies to my Lord and more loving interactions with others. The question for all of us is how do we relate to those who have Jesus in their hearts?

Acts 9:33-34. He found there a man named Aeneas who had been confined to a mattress for eight years because he was paralyzed. Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Get up and make your own bed!” And immediately he got up.

There are many ways to be paralyzed. So many of us are spiritually paralyzed. To respond to God’s power takes action on our part. Aeneas got up. He could have laid in his bed and say he can’t, but he responded and got up. Our question is what has God been wanting to do in or through us? It could be inviting a friend or neighbor to go to church with us. It could be making a phone call. It could be getting into the Bible more and praying more. We tend to get in habits that create ruts. Ruts are paralyzing. Let us ask God where we are paralyzed a d allow His Holy Spirit to move within us. Then let us get up and carry out God’s will.
