Preparing for Home

2 Corinthians 5:8-10. Thus we are full of courage and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So then whether we are alive or away, we make it our ambition to please him.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be paid back according to what he has done while in the body, whether good or evil.

There are only 3 more days before we begin what the Christian Church calls Holy Week.  We’ve looked at a few verses in God’s written word about knowledge and wisdom and hopefully have decided to seek them through study, meditation, prayer and coming together with other believers.  We read Jesus grew in knowledge, stature and wisdom in the same way and also through obedience.  It’s a question of where we want to spend our time and efforts.  God has it for us to receive but we must commit to do our part.  I pray you will join me in continual growth as we wait and prepare for our Lore Jesus to take us home.

Know His Voice

Revelation 13:18. This calls for wisdom:  Let the one who has insight calculate the beasts number, for it is mans number, and his number is 666.

As we prepare and watch for the return of Jesus for His Bride, the church of. Elite era, we are told to use insight and wisdom.  We are to be on guard for the anti-Christ.  Jesus warned many would come and claim to be Him (Jesus).  This is why it is so important for us to know His voice.  I will not write about pre, mid or post tribulation for the believers.  I am not concerned about the future because I know my future is in the hands of God.  Whatever er He allows me to face He will give me the knowledge and wisdom to do so in His love and grace.  Our question is have we practiced listening enough to know His voice?  When one we love talks we know them by their voice.  Let us be sure we know His.

Godly or Worldly Wisdom

James 3:17. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and not hypocritical.

Our question today is how do we discern the difference between what the world calls wisdom and the wisdom from God?  This verse describes the attributes of Godly wisdom.  Pure is without selfish motivation.  Peaceable brings agreeable results.  Gentle brings soft words when correction is needed.  Accommodating takes all needs into consideration.  Full of mercy shows empathy to those who are hurting.  Good fruit encourages the growth of the fruits of the Holy Spirit found in Galatians.  Impartial means not favoring the person or answer we like the best but the answer from God.  Not hypocritical is the follow through of living out the wisdom we presume to speak.  None of this is possible for us without knowledge of God’s Word and a willingness and commitment to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Ask for Wisdom

James 1:5. But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him.

Don’t have wisdom?  Ask God.  He will give us wisdom to use the knowledge we have received as we search His written word.  There is one thing we are told.  (James 1:6-7) “But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed around by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord,”. We must believe God’s faithful to do what He promises.  Wisdom is built on knowledge.  As we do our part,God will  do His part.  He has given us all we need.  We have His written words of wisdom in the Holy Bible.  We have His Holy Spirit to interpret the meaning of those words to us. We have brothers and sisters in the family of God to gather with and encourage each other through sharing the knowledge and wisdom we receive.  I walk in trust God gives me wisdom to write these devotions.  Will you also walk in trust?  He is faithful to give you the wisdom to share the knowledge with others n the way He calls you’ve it writing, speaking, helping, leading, healing or any other ministry.

Far and Wide

2 Timothy 3:15 and how from infancy you have known the holy writings, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

No one is ever too young (or too old) to have the Word of God, the scriptures contained in the Hole Bible, share with them.  Jochebed, the mother of Moses, had only 3 years to fill him with the holy writings.  Then he was taken to a worldly university to grow in the ways of the Egyptians.  It was the words and wisdom implanted in him his first 3 years that made possible his receptivity to God’s direction to lead the Hebrews from the slavery in Egypt to establish the nation of Israel.  Through this came later great leaders and even the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. We never know how far and wide our words will lead.  Our question is are we learning and sharing the words of knowledge and wisdom found in the Holy Bible?

Walk the Talk

Colossians 2:23. Even though they have the appearance of wisdom with their self-imposed worship and false humility achieved by an unsparing treatment of the body-a wisdom with no true value-they in reality result in fleshly indulgence.

Many people are full of good talk.  The expound on things to show how much they know.  The say they are humble so much that there seems to be pride in their “humility.”  They are quick to give advice and tell others what they should do.  At a glance they seem full of wisdom.  We are told to look at the fruits and not so much at the person.  It is by the fruits in Galatians 5 that we can determine the knowledge and wisdom of a person.  As I have been writing this Lenten series on knowledge and wisdom and am amazed at the responses.  I know my knowledge and wisdom are quite limited.  Without the trust that God gives me the words to write I could write nothing.  Jesus said the stones could praise Him if the people were silent.  God used a mule to speak to a prophet.  Our question is are we willing to listen and then do our part in opening our mouth or writing what we hear?  God has something for each one of us to hear and share.  What does He want you to hear and share today?  How does He want you to share it?  When we quit hearing it is because we haven’t followed through with what we last heard.  May I encourage you to listen today and share with someone what you hear.

Assurance Brings Wisdom

Colossians 2:2-3. My goal is that their hearts, having been knit together in love, may be encouraged, and that they may have all the riches that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

One thing that blocks us from understanding the knowledge and mystery of aged through His Son, Jesus, is the lack of unity in love; love of and in Christ as well as love of each other.  We concentrate on the differences of beliefs, interpretations, culture, financial and social positions rather than our unity of being in the family of God.  We say what church or denomination we attend before we say we are a follower of Jesus Christ.  Our question is are we willing to overlook our differences and look at the love God has for us and the love through His Holy Spirit He wants to give us for each other?  Wo are we not to love someone God loves?  Let us choose the unity of love and open our minds and hearts to the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden in Christ, His love for the Father and for us and His obedience to the Father.

Ephesians 1:17. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you spiritual wisdom and revelation in your growing knowledge of him,

What a beautiful prayer.  Not only should we ask God to give us spiritual wisdom and revelation for ourselves,  we should pray this for our government leaders, our church leaders and our families and friends.  Revelation is disclosing or opening up things not understood.  When we pray for wisdom and revelation in knowing God we are asking to see more of His image and become more of a reflection of His image.  Our question is are we willing to do our part in the answering of this?  Wisdom and revelation come through reading, meditating, listening, praying and receiving God’s word as recorded in the Holy Bible and given to us through His Holy Spirit.  We eat food at least 3 times a day.  How often do we eat from God’s book of knowledge, wisdom and revelation?

Lavish Wisdom

Ephesians 1:8-9. that he lavished on us in all wisdom and insight. He did this when he revealed to us the secret of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ,

Wow.  God wants to lavish wisdom and insight (understanding) on us.  He showed us this when He sent His Son, Jesus, to walk this earth.  When we read the Bible we read the wisdom of God.  We read how Jesus as a boy impressed the religious readers with His knowledge and wisdom.  It was far beyond the understanding of the religious leaders.  As He continued to walk this earth He taught about God’s knowledge and shared His wisdom.  When He went back to join His Father He promised His Holy Spirit would come and lead us into knowledge, wisdom and understanding.  The question is are we willing to ask the Holy Spirit to bring us into the knowledge and wisdom of God?  This will not occur automatically.  We must make the effort through the study of the Bible, prayer and meditation.

Christ is Wisdom

1 Corinthians 1:24. But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The only way to power to live life in the way God created it be lived is through the power of Jesus Christ, the only Son of God.  This is the only way into wisdom.  Jesus was with God as the Word of God before anything was created – no Big Bang, no nothing but God, His Word and His Holy Spirit.  God decided to make the universes and create humans in His image with body, soul and spirit.  He wanted man to be free to relate with Him but ,an chose (and continues to choose) to go his own way and seek his own power, knowledge and wisdom.  These are not built on eternal facts.  These will not take us into a relationship with God.  These will not take us into eternity.  It is only by taking Christ into our lives, hearts and mind that we can hope to gradually grow into the image of God with His power, knowledge and wisdom available to us when we need it.  Our question is are we willing to see the difference and wanting that relationship with God?
