Matthew 9:9. As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.

Matthew was considered scum in the Jewish culture. He was a Jew who was not only working for the enemy by collecting taxes for them,he was also a thief demanding more money than was due from his own people. He was looked down on with disgust. Yet Jesus called Matthew to follow Him and become one of His 12 disciples. Matthew followed and eventually wrote a gospel. No one is too sinful, to hated, to damaged to be called by God to follow and serve in the ways shown by God’s Son, Jesus. We are never too young, too old, too crippled, too smart, too ignorant or too anything. God has called each and every person for a purpose. Each and every one has a path to walk that will glorify God. The question is will we choose to walk that path or will we bemoan how useless we are, how much we can’t do. There is always something new for each of us to learn regardless of how old, smart or experienced we are and always something for God to do through us as long as we take a breath on this earth. Let us choose to learn and serve

Teachable

Isaiah 48:17. Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.

As we age we tend to become less teachable. We sit in church but we are to “spiritual” or wise to take notes on the sermon. We already studied many of the books of the Bible, we know all we need to know about them. We are too mature to be part of a Bible study group or Sunday School class. We half listen when someone else shares an interpretation of a scripture verse. We think if God wants to teach us anything else He will do it directly. God used many different vessels to teach us. He uses the scriptures, other people (including the old and the very young), nature, circumstances and anything else He might choose. Our question is are we teachable? Do we want to acknowledge we don’t know and are still in need of much learning? Let us actively open our minds, ears, eyes and hearts to all God has to teach us through any and e Rey implement He chooses.

Psalms 119:7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Many think life is a game and treat it according. Life is not a game. Life on this earth is a training ground for eternal life in heaven in the very real Presence of God the Creator. Heaven is a real place and we will have things to do in heaven. One of the most precious things we will be able to do is praise our God. We learn how to praise Him here in this life on earth. We practice in our own times of devotions and meditations and we practice when we gather together with some of His other children in collective worship services. We also train in various ministries and responsibilities according to the talents and gifts God gives us. We will be joyfully busy in heaven. But to get there we need a ticket. Our ticket is the blood of God’s only Son, Jesus Christ. When we accept Him as our Savior and the director of our life we are washed in His blood and given His Holy Spirit, our ticket to heaven. Our question is do we have our ticket and are we actively training for our time in heaven or are we treating life here as a game? Let us choose to be diligent in our training.
