Clean Windows

1 John 1:7. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

When the house is clean it is brighter and has more light. More light reflects off of clean things. When we confess the filth of our sins the blood Jesus shed for them cleanses them and we can reflect more of His light. As windows must be cleaned often teepee light coming in,we must confess often to keep His light shining in and through us. His light shining in us allows us to see His love for us. It also shows us how He wants to use us for His glory His light shining through us allows others to see Him through our words and actions. Our question is are we willing to allow Him to “wash our widows” everyday and, if you’re like me,throughout each day? Let’s keep His light shining.

Sharing the Light

2 Corinthians 3:18. And we all, with unveiled faces reflecting the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, which is from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

We’ve looked at veils before but there is so much in this one verse. We have been taught our spiritual side is private. We seldom ask others how their relationship with God is and seldom share ours. We talk guardedly putting a veil on our words and our true feelings. We don’t want to be considered as too “religious” or too “spiritual.” Our question is are we more concerned with what others think than what God desires? He wants us to openly reflect His love, light and glory. He is transforming us a little each day not for our own private joy but for His glory and for His shedding light through us into the darkness still in others around us. Let us not fear the judgements of others. Let us not hide the light reflected through us under veils. Let us go forth with loving boldness sharing the light and love of our a God.

Course Correction

1 John 1:7. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

How do we know if we are walking in God’s Light? This says we have fellowship with one another and we are cleansed from sin when we are in the Light. Being cleansed from sin means we have confessed our sins and repented. To repent we must turn away from that we were doing or thinking and turn toward God, our Light. When we see our fellowship is broken with someone it is a sign we are not walking in the Light. It’s time for a course correction. I know when I face God and see the path I have walked on this earth I’ll see it zig and zag through Light and darkness.
Our question is when we slip into the darkness will we choose to make the necessary course correction and face the Light of our God?

What Is The Bible

Psalms 119:105. Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.

What is the Bible to you? To some it is a collection of stories. To others a good book of morals of various times and cultures. Some consider it a general guideline for living but insist on choosing what the like and ignoring what they don’t like. Some use it as table decoration for others to see they have one. The Psalmist says the Bible is God’s word–a word to light the way he should walk his life. He didn’t have the advantage of the New Testament with the words and examples of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. How much brighter the light of God’s word, the Holy Bible, shines today. God has given us the gift of His Holy Spirit to understand the meaning and use of His Lamp and to help us make use of His Light for our walk on this earth. Our question is do we take full advantage of Hos gift to us? The clearer the lamp shade the brighter the light. Let’s not shade the lamp with un-confessed sin or stubborn hearts and minds seeking self-indulgence. Let us continually use the Light Gos has for us.

Knowledge of Light

2 Corinthians 4:6. For God, who said “ Let light shine out of darkness,” is the one who shined in our hearts to give us the light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ.

I was in a new restaurant and went to the restroom.  While there the power went out.  It had no windows and no security light.  I couldn’t see me hand in front of my face.  I had no knowledge what was around me or where the door was.  We need light to gain knowledge.  Jesus, God’s Son, came to earth to bring light into the darkness of our sinful lives.  It is the light of His walk on this earth and the light of His spoken words that give us knowledge of God, His love and forgiveness.  Our question is do we want that knowledge?  With knowledge comes responsibility to use that knowledge.  Our sinful nature resists our giving up our selfish walk.  We must continually choose; choose to receive knowledge through The light of Jesus and walk in obedience or choose to go our own sinful way.

How Many Hairs

Matthew 10:30 Even all the hairs on your head are numbered.

Do you know how many individual hairs are on your head? I don’t. I guess if I was bald it would be easy. This verse is really talking about how deeply and completely God knows us – even better than we know ourselves. It also tells us there are no big things versus small things in God’s eyes. All things are equally important. We humans classify things as little or big. We say we are telling a “little white lie to keep from hurting someone’s feelings.” We think it’s okay to walk past someone with a need because we don’t have time or just don’t want to help. We pretend not to hear or notice things. God hears and notices everything. He knows when we notice things and walk away. He knows what’s in our hearts. He knows what attitude we have about each and every thing. He’s been dealing with me on attitude. At first it was after I opened my mouth about something. Now it’s as soon as I think of saying or doing or not doing something. I hear the word “attitude” and say it to myself. Then I ask God’s forgiveness and help in bringing my attitude into line with His will. Since He knows me so very well as to know how many hairs I have on my head I know there is nothing I can hide from Him. I don’t want to hide anything from Him. I want to quit hiding things from myself because I want to know all God wants me to know. Our question is are we willing to see ourselves as God sees us? He loves us so completely that He wants any darkness within us to move out and give more room for His Light and His Love.

Three Worlds

Psalms 27:4  I have asked the Lord for one thing-
this is what I desire!  I want to live a in the Lord house all the days of my life,
so I can gaze at the splendor of the Lord and contemplate in his temple.

From time to time we should make a list of our wants and desires. We will find we tend to list them in an order of priority, our priority of our self-satisfaction.  As we look at this list we need to look at each thing asking what Jesus would want in our time and space.  If we really desire to dwell in the house of God for all eternity that desire will be on the top of our list.  All other things will relate to that one desire in some shape or form.  We have three worlds: the world of darkness where Satan is king, the world of bright light where God is King and the world between where we live.  We can’t see into the bright light for it is too bright for our eyes.  We look into the darkness and see all manner of shiny things Satin uses to lure us his way: riches, power, fame, etc.. It is hard to turn our eyes away from these things.  The longer we look at them the greater our desire for them.  God knew our eyes could not look through His light so He sent some of His light, Jesus, so we could see what was in the light.  As we learn to focus our eyes on the light of Jesus our desire will grow more and more until dwelling with Him really fulfills all the desires we can ever have.  The choice is ours: choose to look at Jesus or continue to look to the darkness and it’s temporal filling?

Son Light

Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

I was up before the birds and the sun to walk on the beach and watch the sunrise. There was a full moon (the lesser light) reflecting on the ocean. There were 7 ships waiting with their lights on to be led into port. As the sunlight was beginning to dawn the birds awoke and started flying and chirping and greeting the new day. The sunlight gradually grew as the lesser lights dimmed – their lights were no longer needed. God’s Son, the Light of the world, has already risen. He is the Light that shines and takes away the darkness of sin. As the sun light reflected on the ocean we must think about how much of the Son Light reflects on us and through us. Are we allowing Him to shine through our darkness of sin? Are we greeting His Light in us with songs of joy like the birds greeted the light of day? Our question is what in us is blocking or shading His Light? Are we willing to allow the Light of His Holy Spirit to shine into the deepest places of our hearts and minds, revealing all things not of Him, confessing them and putting them under His cross that His Light can shine brightly in and through us.

Salt

Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Jesus told us we are the light of the World. He also said we are the salt of the earth. Light is to show the way. Salt is to preserve from rottenness and death. It is also used to produce or accentuate the flavor. We, as Christians, are to be preserved from rottenness through the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit and the confession and forgiveness of sins. We are to produce or accentuate the flavor of God enticing others to want to taste and see that He is good. (Psalms 34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.) Our question today is are we salty? Are we allowing enough of God’s Holy Spirit in and through us to not only taste of Him ourselves but to entice others to taste and see?
