No More Demons

Mark 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Did you have trouble getting to sleep after your New Year celebration? We did. The firecrackers seemed to be non-ending. Firecrackers were used long ago (and still are in some cultures) as noise that would chase away the demons of the old year and permit the New Year to start without the old demons. There is nothing to deter a demon other than Jesus. Demons cannot stand in the presence of Jesus or even in the presence of a believer who has the authority to say the name of Jesus through his own relationship with Jesus. We need to stay alert to the fact that demons (alcoholisms drug addiction, sexual recklessness, materialism and on and on) and bind those demons in the name and through the power of Jesus. This must be done not just before the start of a new year but throughout the year. Let us determine to stay alert. Binding the demons of this world is a part of preparing the way for Jesus to return. God said, “What’s bound on earth is bound in heaven and what’s loosed on earth is loosed in heaven.” Let us bind the bad and loose God’s Holy Spirit throughout this earth.

Cleaning Time

Philippians 3:13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead

Ever since a young child I have always dedicated the week between Christmas and New Years to clean my room. As an adult I go through the house and donate or trash what can be donated or trashed. After I met Jesus as my Lord I started adding something to the house cleaning. I now include spiritual cleaning during that week. I take time to ask God what in me needs to have His light shed and where I need His cleansing. This time goes deeper than my normal times of confession and repentance through the year. I have a long way to take hold of the fruits of God’s Holy Spirit, which reflect His image, but I am determined to push on with Him. Won’t you join me?
