2 Corinthians 5:9.  So then whether we are alive or away, we make it our ambition to please him.

Oftentimes we co fuse ourselves on our purpose for living.  We make up a variety of reasons we think our purpose in this life is, sometimes multiple purposes.  We confuse our purpose along with our identity and our belonging.  Our purpose and our ambition should be one and the same.  We are here by God’s own choosing therefore our purpose is to please God.  We please God through praise, thanksgiving, worship and obedience which are only possible for us through the power of His Holy Spirit.  God is Spirit and we must worship Him in Spirit.  Giving “lip service” does not work.  Our question is do we want to be pleasing to God or are we more concerned about be pleasing to ourselves or another person?  Who will you be pleasing to this day?

Not My Will But Yours

Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but yours
be done.”

I’m tired and don’t feel good today.  I didn’t want to write.  Yet I remember what Jesus said to God the Father.  Jesus did not want to receive 40 less one lashing that would take out chunks of His flesh.  He didn’t want a crown of thorns mashed down on His head.  He didn’t want to drag a cross beam through crowded streets in the midst of jeering, angry voices.  He didn’t want to be stripped naked and nailed to a cross.  He did want to do His Father’s will and do all this for me so I could be forgiven and have fellowship with Him and the Father and be with them for all eternity.  All He’s asking me to do is sit, pray, listen, read scripture and write what I hear.  How can I do less no matter what is going on or how I feel.  Many times we find we are faced with a situation we don’t really want or maybe don’t even like.  If we have given God our lives, if we give the day to Him for His will and His glory then anything that comes our way  is there for us to face through His hand for His purpose.  Our question is do we choose to trust and serve God through and in the midst of all things?  He did so much for us.  How can we not do so little for Him.

Love Is Kind

1 Corthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up. It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful, It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never ends.

Love is kind.  There are other words for kind: nice, polite, thoughtful.  Picture standing in a long line at a checkout with a cart full.  The line moved slow. Finally there is only one more before our turn.  We notice someone comes up behind us with only one or two items.  We have a choice to make.  How about sitting in a line of traffic?  Someone wants in our lane.  We have a choice to make.  How often do we use the words “thank you?”.  Sometimes we are so task oriented and in such a rush we forget our purpose in living.  Our question is are we willing to slow down and pass God’s love in the form of kindness?  The choice is always ours to make.

God’s Purpose, Our Work

Pr 19:21 Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’S purpose that prevails.

Each one of us is full of plans.  We have plans for this day and for days to come.  Some of our plans are put on us by others.  There is nothing wrong with plans as long as we are flexible.  God created each one of us for His purpose.  The major purpose is fellowship with Him.  He also has work for us to do in His name and through His power.  This work is to spread His love and word to the ends of the earth and make preparations for the coming of His Son, Jesus for His bride, us, the church of believers.  God’s purpose is that not one person will be left out.  Our job is to let each one know through our words and actions.  We get into problems when our plans rub against God’s purpose for us.  Each of us has a different job in preparing for His Kingdom on earth.  What He calls you to do is different than what He calls me to do yet each of us serves the same purpose/goal.  We must each listen to Him through scripture and through the gentle voice of His Holy Spirit. Let us learn to submit all our plans and all our ways and all our thoughts and actions to God for confirmation or correction.  It continually amazes me that God would choose to work through sinful people like me.  What an awesome God we serve.
