Mk 14:15 He will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”

Jesus instructed His disciples to go and prepare the Seder, the Passover Feast.  Notice He told them where to go and that it was furnished and ready.  That means at some point and time Jesus had already made arrangements.  Jesus knew this would be the last supper they would have together.  He knew Judas would betray Him.  He knew the cross was close to come.  Jesus instructed His disciples and all of us who follow to drink the cup and eat the bread as often as we come together in remembering Him and what He did for us.  Many of our churches celebrate a Thursday night service before Good Friday where we celebrate this “Last Supper” or “communion”.  We celebrate it many times during the year but, on this night, the cost to Jesus is closer to mind.  As we celebrate it we should keep in mind Jesus prepared for it ahead of time.  We also need to prepare ourselves ahead of time.  We should already have made things right with anyone we’ve hurt, whether intentional or not.  We should already have confessed our sins, sought God’s forgiveness and forgiven ourselves as well as those who might have hurt us.  We need to learn to come to celebrate communion with clean hearts and open spirits.  May we each be ready.  This “Last Supper” is a preparation for the banquet we are invited to when we graduate to heaven.
