Sin is Sin

Psalms 32:5. Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing. I said, “I will confess my rebellious acts to the Lord.”
And then you forgave my sins.

It’s hard for us to admit when we are wrong. It’s even harder for us to admit something we said, thought or did is a sin. We use the words “goof,” “little lie,” and others instead of the word “sin.” Sin is anything that separates us from God. God says all we think, say and do should be in love and bring Him glory. We must learn to call sin sin and admit it to ourselves so we can confess it to God and be forgiven. Sometimes we’ll need to make restitution to someone. It may be we only need to say we’re sorry and ask for their forgiveness. It might require more to make restitution. Let’s be honest with ourselves, God and others. Let”s be quick to admit sin and move on in our walk with God.

Righteousness

2 Corinthians 5:21. God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God.

Jesus was and is righteous. God made Him to be sin for us so through Jesus we could be made righteous. We of ourselves are not righteous. We are sinners. Jesus knew no sin but in obedience to the Father and in love for us agreed to take on Himself what He never experienced so that we who are very experienced at sin could be counted as if we are righteous. Our question is do we make room for His righteousness in us by confessing our sins? Let us do what I call spiritual breathing; exhale sin through confession and inhale His righteousness.

Clean Slate

Psalms 5:3. O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.

What does God hear from us in the morning? Does He hear us moan, mumble or complain? Mornings are a blessing, even after a sleepless night. Mornings represent new possibilities, new beginnings. If we go to bed confessing our sins of the day and receiving God’s forgiveness because we are covered with the shed blood of His only Son, Jesus, we have a new slate in the morning. We may have mad plans for the day head but if we invite God’s plans for us on this new day to override our plans we are in for a wonderful day. Let us wake up realizing that the day is God’s to be used for His glory and walk in His perfect and glorious plans for us.

Inner-self

John 3:3. Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

People use all sorts of things to try to find their “inner self.” They can try to try but the real inner self can only be known by a re-birth. Jesus said it. We must be born again. Humanity lost their inner self when sin entered in the Garden of Eden. It takes a re-birth to regain the inner-self, the spirit created in the image of God. There is only one birth canal for this. It is the birth canal of giving our hearts and lives to God through His only Son, Jesus Christ. When we do that the stain of sin that separates us from our inner-self (the image of God) is washed away by the shed blood of Jesus. He gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit to reveal to us and teach us about this inner-self new-born within. Our question is are we striving to do this by worldly means or are we choosing God’s labor took of rebirth through sanctification through Jesus?

Persistence

1 Thessalonians 5:17. pray without ceasing

This verse has a double meaning. We are to be continually in prayer–communication with God. It also applies when we are praying for one specific thing. Few are to continue to pray for it until we either see it come about or we see it really wasn’t the right answer. Jesus used a couple of examples about being persistent with our requests. Luke 11:5-8 tells about the man who must continually knock on his neighbor’s door to get what he needs. Luke 18:1-5 is The Parable of the Persistent Widow. Why do we sometimes need to as repeatedly? It may be our timing is wrong, it may be to be sure we really want what we ask, it may be something is blocking our prayers. Our question , is anything in our heart that blocks the Holy Spirit in our life? Another question, do we care enough to be persistent?

Course Correction

1 John 1:7. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

How do we know if we are walking in God’s Light? This says we have fellowship with one another and we are cleansed from sin when we are in the Light. Being cleansed from sin means we have confessed our sins and repented. To repent we must turn away from that we were doing or thinking and turn toward God, our Light. When we see our fellowship is broken with someone it is a sign we are not walking in the Light. It’s time for a course correction. I know when I face God and see the path I have walked on this earth I’ll see it zig and zag through Light and darkness.
Our question is when we slip into the darkness will we choose to make the necessary course correction and face the Light of our God?

New Every Morning

Lamentations 3:22-23. The Lord s loyal kindness never ceases; his compassions never end.
They are fresh every morning; your faithfulness is abundant!

The Manna was fresh every morning. God’s kindness and compassion for each of us is also new every morning. Each night we confess our sins of the day to God we are forgiven. The morning comes with a clean slate. Our question is, after we confess our sins do we choose to carry that extra baggage the next day? What is behind is behind. Each day is new. Each morning God will fill us anew with His Holy Spirit, His love and His power. All we need do is ask each morning then accept and walk in God’s abundant faithfulness.

What Is The Bible

Psalms 119:105. Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.

What is the Bible to you? To some it is a collection of stories. To others a good book of morals of various times and cultures. Some consider it a general guideline for living but insist on choosing what the like and ignoring what they don’t like. Some use it as table decoration for others to see they have one. The Psalmist says the Bible is God’s word–a word to light the way he should walk his life. He didn’t have the advantage of the New Testament with the words and examples of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. How much brighter the light of God’s word, the Holy Bible, shines today. God has given us the gift of His Holy Spirit to understand the meaning and use of His Lamp and to help us make use of His Light for our walk on this earth. Our question is do we take full advantage of Hos gift to us? The clearer the lamp shade the brighter the light. Let’s not shade the lamp with un-confessed sin or stubborn hearts and minds seeking self-indulgence. Let us continually use the Light Gos has for us.

Isaiah 44:22. I remove the guilt of your rebellious deeds as if they were a cloud, the guilt of your sins as if they were a cloud. Come back to me, for I protect you.”

We are so good at quitting when we don’t quickly achieve quick success. This shows in diet plans. It shows in fitness rooms. We don’t achieve the results we want in the time we want and quit. It also shows in the spiritual realm. We pray for something and when we don’t see the answer we want in the time we want we quit praying. Churches jump from program to program for the same reasons. We tend to carry this thinking over to our disobedience and sins. We don’t see success in witnessing so we say we can’t and quit trying. We repeat something we’ve confessed and been forgiven for and think we’ll never get it right. We keep confessing the same thing over and over to God and maybe to others. God says what we confess is over. It is no longer with us. He wants our focus on being with Him not on our past sins. Our question is will we choose to move on with God or feel sorry for ourselves telling everyone how bad we’ve been and feeling hopeless about a victory? Let us believe and trust God and keep moving forward.

Self-Sins

Mark 7:23. All these evils come from within and defile a person.”

What are the evils we are to examine ourselves for? We have a group of what I call self-sins. Among them are:
self-righteousness, self-pity, self-confidence, self-sufficiency, self-admiration, self-love. this is not a complete list but we can add others as the Holy Spirit reveals them to us. These self-sins are part of our carnal nature. we are so accustomed to them we rarely notice. As hard as it is to notice them in us, it is even harder for us to free ourselves from them. The manifestations of these sins, egotism, exhibitionism, self-promotion, are so common that they are tolerated in our Christian leaders. Self can live unrebuked at the very altar. No one is immune. Praise God we don’t have to free ourselves yourself. We have God’s Holy Spirit to not only show us these self-sins. He will help us rid the habits and develop new habits reflecting the fruit of the Spirit. Our question remains are we willing to get serious with ourselves and our Holy God and move on with Him? As long as we keep any of these self-sins we will be separated from close communion with Him.
