Examine Ourself Part 2

2 Corinthians 13:5. “Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!

It’s hard to be really honest with ourselves. Our first step is to drop all defense. We are not to try and find excuses for what we do, don’t do or think. God knows the truth so the only one who might agree with the defenses or excuses is ourself. Then we must remember Who God is. The examination of ourself is holy business with God. We cannot sluff anything off for God will hold us accountable. Our question is do we really want to examine ourself and make more room in us to reflect the image of God? Without this we will continue to reflect the self-centered sinner we really are. Let us put behind our self-pity and our excuses and move on with our God. Our future is determined by our choices.

Ps 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

This is a dangerous prayer.  When we pray this verse we are asking for a trial – a trial to show us where we don’t trust God.   In college I learned the hard way not to wait to study until just before a test.  It is the same with learning to trust God.  Daily praying and scripture study grow our faith muscles.  Testing of our faith and trust is for our benefit – to show us where we are in our relationship to God.  We must ask ourselves, “Are we really ready for a test?”  I encourage you to get into the Bible every day and to take time every day to pray, being sure to give God equal time to speak to you.
