Isaiah 11:1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

Isaiah was written hundreds of years before Jesus was born in Bethlehem.  Isaiah knew Jesus would be coming.  Jesus indirectly referred to this verse when He said He is the vine and we are the branches.  Jesus bore fruit.  We cannot bear fruit unless we abide in Jesus – the vine.  Our question today is are we abiding in Jesus?  We can tell by looking for the fruits.  The fruits of the Holy Spirit are listed in the 5th chapter of Galatians.  Lets take time today to refresh our minds on these fruits and ask God to bring growth to them in us.  In order to prepare the way for His Kingdom to come on earth we must be bearing fruits.

Jn 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

When I read this verse I think about tomato plants.  The vine grows straight up.  The branches grow off the vine.  Sometimes suckers appear in the joint between the vine and the branches.  We have to pinch them off or they will take away the nourishment the plant needs to bear fruit.  We are a lot like a tomato plant in our connection to Jesus.  Suckers come in and threaten the nourishment of God’s Holy Spirit.  Sometimes we notice them ourselves and pinch them off.  Many times God puts us through situations that will serve to pinch off the suckers.  We need the suckers pinched off quickly to keep from blocking the nourishment of God’s Holy Spirit from growing His fruits within our lives.  Let’s stand guard against suckers.
